Embodied cognition through cultural interaction

چکیده
In this short paper we describe a robotic setup to study the self-organization of conceptualisation and language. What distinguishes this project from others is that we envision a robot with speci c cognitive capacities, but without resorting to any pre-programmed representations or conceptualisations. The key to this all is self-organization and enculturation. We report preliminary results on learning motor behaviours through imitation, and sketch how the language plays a pivoting role in constructing world representations.

Cognition and Multi-Agent Interaction: From Cognitive Modeling to Social Simulation Sociality in embodied neural agents
This chapter addresses the topic of how embodied neural agents coordinate together to exhibit interesting social behaviors. Embodied neural agents are defined in this Introduction. Sections 2 through 5 describe simulations of collective phenomena emerging from the interactions among embodied neural agents living in the same environment. Section 2 discusses spatial aggregation and proto-social b...

Learning scientists are only beginning to appreciate the potential of synergy between two concurrent developments—theory of embodied cognition and technology of embodied interaction. We characterize and evaluate this prospective synergy from a sociocultural perspective. First we analyze learning in explicitly embodied cultural practices (e.g., surfing), then analogize to the implicitly embodied...
متن کاملEmbodied Cultural Cognition: Situating the Study of Embodied Cognition in SocioCultural Contexts
Embodiment research has demonstrated that cognition is grounded in bodily interactions with the environment and that abstract concepts are tied to the body’s sensory and motor systems. Building upon this embodiment perspective and advancing our understanding, we discuss the extension of embodied cultural cognition. We propose that some associations between bodily experiences and abstract concep...
متن کاملDbI Review Dec 2006 Embodied Cognition and the Development of Language for Individuals who are Congenitally Deafblind
Individuals who are congenitally deafblind are presented with significant challenges when attempting to acquire language and communication skills. Since most of the information perceived is gained through direct bodily contact, cognitive processes necessary for language development remain closely connected to the body’s interaction with the environment. The embodied cognition approach, with its...
